Fonio

Fonio is a porcelain stoneware tile collection designed to bring the expressive character of handcrafted ceramics into contemporary interiors. Its glossy surface, deliberately irregular texture and subtle tonal movement create a tactile architectural finish with greater depth and individuality than a uniform machine-made tile.

The collection is available in four coordinated colourways. Bianco provides a luminous warm white, while Natural introduces a soft ivory-beige neutral. Grigio offers a restrained pale grey, and Blu creates a richer, more dramatic blue with visible tonal variation.

Fonio combines compact formats with intentionally uneven surfaces and close-joint installation. Changes in glaze, reflection, texture and shade between individual pieces support the collection's handmade appearance and produce natural-looking movement across larger areas.

The Lux finish enhances reflected light, colour depth and the fluid character of the glaze. In addition to the flat field tiles, the Pleat 3D structure adds a sculptural ribbed surface in all four colours, allowing light and shadow to become part of the installation.

Four core formats - 50 x 150 mm, 60 x 240 mm, 75 x 200 mm and 150 x 150 mm - provide flexibility for stacked, vertical, horizontal and offset layouts.

Fonio can be coordinated with timber, natural stone, warm plaster, painted cabinetry and brushed or aged metal fixtures. Bianco, Natural and Grigio work particularly well in calm neutral interiors, while Blu can introduce stronger colour, contrast and personality to bathrooms, kitchens and hospitality environments.

Flat Fonio tiles are presented by the manufacturer for floor and wall use, making them suitable for applications such as bathrooms, kitchens, splashbacks, powder rooms, feature walls and selected internal floors where the chosen product meets project requirements. Pleat 3D is identified for wall use. The manufacturer also describes the collection as frost proof and resistant to deep abrasion.

Variation in colour, shade, glaze, texture and apparent surface irregularity should be expected between individual tiles. These characteristics are intentional and form part of Rice's handcrafted appearance. Viewing current samples is recommended before final selection.
